Zebra Danio (Danio rerio)
Category: Aquarium Fish Other
Zebra Danio is a variety of freshwater fish that comes from the Cyprinidae family. This fish variety hails from the Ganges area in the eastern part of India, and it is an admired aquarium fish. The fish is chiefly distinguished for its regenerative skills, and it has been customized by researchers to create many transgenic strains. These fish varieties are largely found in the brooks of the southeastern part of the Himalayas, and in parts of India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Burma and Nepal. A small aquarium with the capacity of 10 gallons is sufficient to develop this fish, with the temperature of the water ranging from 64 degree Fahrenheit to 75 degree Fahrenheit.
Features
The Zebra Danio fish variety is a non-violent fish and has a maximum body length of 3 inches. They have a body color in either gold or silver, with five consistent blue or purple colored lines that extend parallel from the gill to the last part of the tail. The Zebra Danio fish breed is a highly energetic swimmer, particularly when maintained in small schools. Generally, male Zebra Danio fish breeds have a torpedo body shape, whereas female breeds are inclined to have a bigger stomach.
Zebra Danio fish varieties are found in a mixture of habitats in the wild, ranging from slow-moving streams to fast-moving, close to stagnant pools. In the aquarium, these fish breeds prefer a heavily planted aquarium with big open swimming spaces. These peaceful fish breeds are kept in small schools with uniformly non-violent fish.
Diet
Zebra Danio fish varieties are omnivores, and they feed on the plant matter and algae in the wild. In the aquarium, they are fed with a wide-ranging diet of frozen and flake foods.
Reproduction
Generally, the male Zebra Danio fish spawn with and continue faithful to one female fish. A breeding couple is placed in a separate breeding aquarium with heavy-leaved plants to make them to spawn over. The female fish will lay eggs between 300 and 400 and the eggs will hatch in two days. The fry are fed with small slices of live foods, like brine shrimp.
The average lifespan of the Zebra Danio fish breed ranges from 3 years to 5 years.
