Facts about Smith & Wesson Model 29 Gun. The Smith & Wesson model 29, manufactured by the US based company Smith and Wesson, is a six shot, double action revolver that is chambered for .44 Magnum cartridge. This gun was made popular Clint Eastwood playing the Dirty Harry Callahan fictional character from Dirty Harry series. Initially, customers of this model gun were offered the gun with barrel lengths of 3", 4", 5", 6", 6", 8 3/8" and later 10 5/5 as standard models. However, customers could still get other barrel lengths either through gunsmiths or special orders from Smith&Wesson Custom Shop. The finish options available for the Smith&Wesson Model 29 included those with nickel-plated surface of highly polished blued.
When it was introduced in 1957, it was a very powerful handgun production. It chambered and fired .44 cartridges. The intention of the developers was for this new round to be useful in side arms for hunters instead of self-defense, though with the specialty created cartridges, the round can be great for defense.
How it works
The Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum target is a great hand weapon to use while hunting since it is a powerful and has softer recoils while compared to other guns of its size. This weapon can be fired both single-action and double action, and whether the hammer is cocked in either method, the cylinder rotates aligning the next chamber with the barrel. In the single-action shooting, the trigger is pressed after the hammer is cocked or pulled to the extreme rear ward position. However, this method is used when the shooter has enough time to sight the gun carefully.
On the other hand, double action entails aligning the weapon with the object you intend to hit and then pull the trigger all the way to the rear. This firm pulling of the trigger causes the hammer to rise to its full cocked position and consequently explode the cartridge. Unlike single action, this method is required mostly in combat or in cases where the situation demands the gun must be put to use urgently.
Expert shooters agree that the rate of fire is not dependent on the gun itself, but on the definite cadence of the shooter in re-loading the cylinder, aiming the weapon and pulling the trigger otherwise this is a very efficient and fast handgun.
