Facts about Sloughi Hound Dogs, "Scientific name for Sloughi Hound Dog, or domestic canine, is Canis lupus familiaris". The Sloughi Hound Dog breed is sometimes called the Arabian Greyhound or Sloughi Moghrebi. The Sloughi is a sight hound, bred in North Africa. They hunt primarily by sight, not smell, hence the genre’s name “sight hound”.
This is an ancient breed, most closely related to the Azawakh. The Sloughi Hound Dog was bred in North Africa from Morocco to Libya by the Bedouin. They were used to hunt desert foxes, rabbits, gazelles, ostrich and even hyena. Today, the Sloughi Hound Dog are sometimes used to protect herds from jackal.
