Rhode Island, with the postal abbreviation RI is one among the 50 states in the United States, situated in the New England part of the country. Rhode Island is surrounded by Massachusetts in the north and east, Connecticut in the west and the state shares a water border with the Long Island of New York to the southwest.

Rhode Island was the earliest of the unique thirteen settlements to declare freedom from the British rule. The State was as well, the very last of the thirteen original settlements to approve the Constitution of the United States. Rhode Island includes several huge bays and inlets that come to about 14 percent of its entire area. There are five counties in Rhode Island among which the Kent County was the most recent county formed in the state, in the year 1750.

Among the counties of the Rhode Island State, the most populous county is the Providence County with the population of 626,667, and the Bristol County is ranked as the least populous county with the population of 49,875.
