Plumbing follows the basic law of nature-gravity , pressure, water seeking its own level. Knowing this you can understand its "mysteries" and understand the basic functions of plumbing in your home. The potable water that comes into your home is under pressure, this allows the potable water to make it to the fixtures in your home for drinking, showering, using your faucets and flushing your toilets. Before there was plumbing, people carried in the water in buckets, for cleaning and cooking and carried it out after it was used. Going to the bathroom was done out side in a privy or a outhouse. Indoor toilets and running water based on or using English and European technology, it was not until the mid-nineteenth century that there were an fair number of plumbing installations. For most households the plumbing amounted to nothing more than a hand pump and kitchen sink. A much smaller number might have had hot and cold water, this is what became known as a bathroom.
The name Plumber dates back to the Roman Empire. Where roofs were made of lead, or plumbum in Latin, this is where the symbol (Pb) for lead is derived from. Water proofe's and workers on the roofs were what we now call (plumbers). A plumbarius, eventually shortened to the word plumber.
