Panda Goby

Facts about the Panda Goby, it is a species of goby that belongs to the Paragobius genus of the Gobiidae family. The scientific name of the fish is Paragobius lacunicolus and it is also commonly called as the Panda Clown Goby and Blackfin Coral Goby. This Panda Goby fish species hails from Japan and Sri Lanka. The Panda Gobies are usually seen in the middle of the branches of the settlements of the Pocillopora coral. The Panda Goby is one of the most exotic, but rarely found in the middle of the whole clan.

Features

The Panda Goby is a tiny stocky shaped fish that attains a maximum body length of 1.7 inches (6 cm) when fully grown. These Panda Goby fish species are white, black, and yellow in color, with an extremely big head for its body size. The Panda Gobies are a nonviolent fish that makes a superb accumulation to a reef aquarium, surrounding with polyp coral colonies, as they take pleasure in swimming and hiding in the middle of the polyps. However, these fish species may pinch the polyps of Small Polyp Stony corals.

The color patterns of the Panda Goby fish species are pearly yellow in general, and it has black color fins on the sides of its body. In the wild, this Panda Goby fish species is seen not only on rubble and sand bottoms, but it can also be seen in water at a depth that ranges from 3.3 feet to 28 feet (1 meter to 12 meters). The Panda Goby usually becomes accustomed rapidly to aquarium life, such that the acclimation time would be between half an hour and one and a half hour. However, when kept in aquarium it needs ample hiding places and a diverse diet. In confinement these Panda Gobies are reef safe, so simultaneously multiple gobies can be added into the tank.

The Panda Goby fish species are perfect for reef aquariums, but they can also be maintained in passive community aquariums, as long as they have abundance of hiding spots. These Panda Gobies may brawl among themselves for territory, but they can be accommodated with other nonviolent fish. The Panda Gobies do their level best on a diet of tiny frozen meaty foods, such as mysis shrimp and brine shrimp. They may as well, feed on the cream from some corals, but they usually do not hurt the coral.

In the aquarium, the Panda Goby needs a minimum of one Pocillopora coral and a few shaded regions to hide. It will rarely turn out to be violent towards other fish. So, it is best if it is maintained with other passive fish species

As the Panda Goby is a small size fish, it needs a smaller aquarium with a capacity of 10 gallons to be effectively maintained with. However, they prefer to live in water with the temperature that ranges from 72 degrees Fahrenheit to 78 degrees Fahrenheit, with the pH value between 8.1 and 8.4 and with the specific gravity between 1.023 and 1.025.

Diet

The Panda Goby is a carnivorous fish and in the wild, it mostly feeds on marine plant matter and algae. In the aquarium, this fish is nourished with a range of tiny, meaty foods, like minced cold mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, flakes, pellets and other freezing food preparations intended for carnivorous fish species.

The Panda Goby has a lifespan of only 1 or 2 years.
