The Nissan Maxima is a compact sedan, constructed by the Japanese auto manufacturer, Nissan Motors. The Nissan Maxima was primarily sold in North America. The Nissan Maxima replaced the previous Datsun 810 by making its sales presentation in North America during 1981 for the 1982 model year under the name the Datsun Maxima. Similar to the Datsun 810, early models of the Nissan Maxima had their sources from the Datsun or Nissan Bluebird. The Datsun make was phased out in support of Nissan during 1983 for the model year of 1984, hence turning out to be the Nissan Maxima.
Most of the earlier models of Nissan Maxima before the year 2003 were constructed in Oppama, Japan, pending the current Maxima models in North America started being constructed in Smyrna, Tennessee. In some automotive markets outside North America, the name, Maxima has been offered to the Nissan Teana and the Nissan Cefiro, as well.
The first and the second generation of the Nissan Maxima to hold the name, the Maxima, was the Datsun 810 model, which was introduced during 1980 for the model year of 1981. It was basically a Japanese-automotive market, the 910 Datsun Bluebird, equipped with a 99 mm (3.9 inches) longer nose to house the inline-six engine. This Maxima model replaced the first generation Datsun 810, but the second generation of this model was not marketed in Japan, but sold only in North America under the name the 810 Maxima and the Datsun 810 Deluxe.
During 1981, for the model year 1982, all the models of the Datsun 810 were renamed as Datsun Maxima. In 1983, for the 1984 model year, the end year of the first generation Nissan Maxima, all the models of Datsun in North America also started carrying the badge, Nissan. Only the 1984 Nissan models have carried the badges Datsun and Nissan on the back of the sedan, even though earlier models of Nissan carried the badge, Datsun, with a small badge "by Nissan" section at the base.
The introduction of the Nissan Maxima in North America followed the thriving opening of the Nissan S30, and it was equipped with the same transmission and engine at the same time as offering four doors and comfortable accommodations, with a station wagon introduced later.
After coming across seven generations and a lot of modifications from 1981 to 2014, Nissan introduce the eighth and current generation of Nissan Maxima in 2015. The current Nissan Maxima is expected to have an exterior that is almost indistinguishable to the Sport Sedan Concept, which was unveiled during January 2014.
On the 1st of February 2015, Nissan aired an advertisement during the introduction of the Superbowl XLIX under the title "With Dad". Near the conclusion of this advertisement, a brief sight of the novel Maxima was observed. After the Superbowl advertisement, Nissan introduced two official pictures of the fresh Maxima, stating the complete show will take place at the International Auto Show in New York during April.
The new Nissan Maxima was unveiled at the Auto Show in New York in April 2015. Featuring a sporty body revamp, the current Nissan Maxima will have the positioning of the four-door sports sedan of Nissan. The 2016 Nissan Maxima goes on sale during the 2015 summer as the 2015 model year.
