Nevada with the postal abbreviation NV is one among the 50 states in the United States, situated in the in the mountain west, western and southwestern areas of the country. Nevada is approximately lies entirely surrounded by the Basin and Range Province, and is separated by several north-south peak ranges. The majority of these mountain ranges have endorheic gorges between them, which contradicts the image depicted by the word Great Basin. In addition, water surface occupies 792 square miles of the total area of the state within its boundaries. There are 16 counties in Nevada among which the Carson City was the most recent county formed in the state, in the year 1969.
