History Mini John Cooper Works car

John Cooper helped design Formula One cars and collaborated to create the Mini Cooper car, which first came out in 1961.
John Cooper Works was founded by the son of John Cooper in 2000. The company was incorporated into BMW in 2002.
In 2002, there was a JCW Tuning Kit made for the Cooper S to upgrade the car, including JCW decorative badges, up-rated spark plugs, a better super charger, better cylinder heads, a remapped ECU, and improved exhaust system. The kit initially had to be retrofitted by a Mini Cooper dealer. After 2004, the Cooper S could be ordered with the JCW upgrade directly from the factory. In 2005, a John Cooper Works sound kit also became available, for modifying the sound of the exhaust to be more like a sports car, as well as slightly increasing the power of the car.
BMW purchased the rights to the John Cooper Works name in 2007 before buying the company out complete in 2008. In 2007, Mini put the JCW tuning kit in the R56 version of the Mini car. The main change was that the engine was turbocharged, not supercharged.
After BMW bought Mini, it shifted the Mini branded cars to the BMW platform in 2012.
