Facts about Middle White Pigs, The "Middle White Pig" are a domestic pig which is native to United Kingdom. Its origins are related with the Large White pigs because they both originated at the same time. It is believed to have originated from Yorkshire.
Middle White Pigs were given the name middle white name because its size is in between the large white and the small white pigs which are believed to be extinct. It was bred between the two pigs because small white were considered very small for market purpose. So they wanted to get a pig that is neither small nor big like the large white.
In 1884, Middle White Pigs were recognized as a breed in Europe. Its docile and gentle nature makes it suitable for grazing. It rarely roots so when it is indoors, one does not have to worry about the fence.
Unlike other pigs that are known for bacon or lard, Middle White pigs are well known for pork. The pig became known to many specialists because it was one of the highest pork producers in the 20th century. In fact the Middle White Pig was given a name of London porker because many people in the capital love its pork. The Middle White Pig was also highly exported to other countries. A good example of the countries that it was highly exported is Japan.
The sow weighs around 440 pounds (200 kg) and the boar around 620 pounds (280 kg). It is clearly identified from others by its sharp upturned snub nose and large prick ears. It has a well stocky body and compact than other pigs.
The White Middle pig is very tolerant and can live in very extreme conditions. Either when it is very hot or cold, the Middle White Pig adapts well. It struggles to fend for itself especially when there is drought, so it is a choice for many farmers. If there is shelter the pig makes itself comfortable but even when there is none, it does not mind spending the night in the cold.
The sow gives birth to litters that are around 8 to 10 in size. It has very good maternal instincts and takes care of it young. This is why it is high in producing good suckling piglets that weighs around 30 to 33 pounds (14 to 15 kg) live weight. The sows nurse their piglets for about three to five weeks. When Piglets are weaned off of their mother’s milk, they are not called piglets but are known as shoats.
Due to its demand most farmers were rearing and fattening for the purpose of selling. An advantage the Middle White Pig has over others is that it matures fast so considered to be very good for pork trading. A carcass weight is around 145 to 155 pounds (65 to 70 kg). The weight is taken for a 3 or 4 months pig. So, in case a person wants to feed it longer than the four months, the weight will increase, giving you a big pig. In fact farmers confessed to have not taken the Middle White Pig for weight from the 4th month because they believe that it is too heavy.
Middle White Pigs are very intelligent, not like people think, that pigs are dumb animals. A Middle White Pig can drink between 10 to 14 gallons (37.8 to 53 liters)of water in a day. Middle White Pigs are omnivores like humans, an omnivores, (definition-they eat both other animals and plants). The Middle White Pig snout is its most important tool for finding food. The pigs snout is used for their excellent sense of smell and have poor eyesight.
The White Middle pig is believed to be handy just like other traditional pigs in Europe. But the sole purpose of ignoring the Middle White Pig bread is because farmers have concentrated more on bacon producing pigs. Though the White Middle pig still exists farmers are using it for cross breeds to ensure that the quality of the meat remains.
Middle White Pigs can carry a variety of diseases and can pass them to humans. Middle White Pigs have small lungs compared to their body size.

The four feet and four toes of the pig are called "trotters" that humans eat as a delicacy called pigs feet or pigs knuckles. A Middle White Pigs foot has four toes that are pointed downwards when the pig walks, it walks on the tips of its toes, rather than its whole foot and only uses two of the toes in the middle and the outside toes for balance. The Middle White Pig has tougher feet at the ends that are hooves. The two toes in the middle of the foot are slightly webbed, this helps the pigs balance for walking.
Middle White Pigs have 44 teeth when full grown, when they are baby pigs (piglets) the have 28 teeth which will fall out when they are 12 months old. Just like human teeth, the Middle White Pig has an enamel coating that makes the pigs teeth stronger and helps it curb disease. Middle White Pigs chew their food because pigs have a digestive system similar to a human digestive system and cannot digest food that is not chewed. A female adult Middle White Pig is called a (sow) and the male adult Middle White Pig is called a (boar). The lifespan of a Middle White Pig is between 9 and 15 years
Middle White Pigs do not sweat a lot, that's why they cover themselves in the mud to keep their bodies cool. The expression "sweating like a pig" comes from a reference to pig iron, which comes form iron smelting.
The saliva of Middle White Pigs contains pheromones-( A chemical substance used to attract a mate) similar to that of other pig breeds that communicate their sexual wants. The male Middle White Pigs discharge this steroid and female pigs will go to vast lengths to acquire a smell of the sent.
Pigs can make great pets. "A wild male pig is called a boar"- meaning uncastrated male pig, that lives in the wild and can be hunted. "Feral pig or hog is defined as a wild boar" can be a very big danger where humans habitat.
