Category: Honda
The Honda Pilot is a cross-over SUV made by Honda.
History
The Honda Pilot first came out in 2002, replacing the Honda Passport. The second generation of the Honda Pilot came out in 2009. The second generation had the trim lines available in 2015: LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring. The third generation of the Honda Pilot came out in 2016. One of the major changes in the 2016 model year redesign was a direct injected engine that put out more horsepower.
Design
The Honda Pilot is the largest SUV by Honda and the only three row seat SUV by Honda.
The Honda Pilot comes with three rows of seating, making it popular with large families. The Honda Pilot seats seven or eight people with better fuel efficiency than a minivan. The Honda Pilot shares its underpinning and power train with the Acura MDX SUV, and it shares its platform with both the Odyssey minivan and Accord sedan.
There are several configurations of the Honda Pilot. The LX is the cheapest. The next trim level is the EX. The SE is higher. The middle level configuration is the SE. The EX-L was the second highest trim level in 2015. The Touring was the most expensive and decked out configuration for the second generation Honda Pilot. In 2016, a new trim line, the Elite, came out.
The second generation Honda Pilot engine is a 250 horsepower 3.5 liter V6. The second generation SUV had a five speed automatic transmission. A 9 speed ZF 9HP automatic transmission is an option on the Pilot, though that is standard with the Touring trim level.
The third generation Honda Pilot engine puts out 280 horsepower and 262 lb-feet of torque. Honda Pilot has a 6 speed automatic transmission as its standard.
Honda Pilot is a front wheel drive vehicle.
Performance
The 2015 model year Honda Pilot version received a four star rating from the NHTSA.
The second generation of the Honda Pilot gets 16 miles per gallon in the city and 22 miles per gallon on the highway. The Honda Pilot has a top speed of 112 miles per hour and accelerates zero to sixty miles per hour in just under 8 seconds.
The third generation of the Honda Pilot lost around 300 pounds over its prior generation design. The result was a rise to 17 miles per gallon in the city and 24 miles per gallon on the highway. The Touring and Elite trim lines get 2 mpg better than these figures for the third generation Honda Pilot .
