The Brooklyn Bridegrooms was created, The team was created in 1883 and joined the National League in 1890. In 1899 the team merged with one from Baltimore and renamed themselves the Brooklyn Superbas, and Charles Ebbets became the new owner. They became the Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers in 1911, but were just called the Dodgers for short. In 1885 the Brotherhood of Professional Baseball Players is founded. The Cuban X Giants becomes the first African-American baseball team to beat a Major League Baseball team, they beat the Brooklyn Dodgers. In 1901 season a new Western League, a minor league, based in the Great Lakes States, declared itself a new major league called the American League. The American League challenged Spalding's National League by picking up teams dropped by the National league, and starting new teams. $500 was the average pay per player, and more than a hundred players jumped ship. By 1903 the two leagues made came together, and a national commission was formed. In 1947 Jack Roosevelt ( Jackie as he was called), Robinson plays in the Major League. In 1947 the first televised World Series was played.In 1951 The Little League is established in British Columbia, Canada. In 1964 CBS purchases the New York Yankees.In 1969 the underdog New York Mets win the World Series. In 1973 George Steinbrenner buys the New York Yankees and today has become the richest franchise in baseball. In 1974 Hank Aaron breaks Babe Ruth's home run record.
