The Brooklyn Bridegrooms was created, The team was created in 1883 and joined the National League in 1890. In 1899 the team merged with one from Baltimore and renamed themselves the Brooklyn Superbas, and Charles Ebbets became the new owner. They became the Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers in 1911, but were just called the Dodgers for short. In 1885 the Brotherhood of Professional Baseball Players is founded. In 1901 season a new Western League, a minor league, based in the Great Lakes States, declared itself a new major league called the American League.
