Category: Shotguns and Smoothbores
The H&R Topper is a single shot shotgun by Harrington and Richardson, originally called H&R but reincorporated in 1991 as H&R 1871, LLC. H&R 1871 manufactures H&R brand and New England Firearms brand weapons. H&R was taken over by Remington before being absorbed into the Freedom Group. The modern H&R Topper shot gun is manufactured to designs that date back to just after the Civil War.
This line of guns is renowned for its automatic ejection of spent cartridges to speed up cycle time, while its transfer bar system prevents accidental discharge. H&R Topper has a reputation for dependability, fast reloading and reliability.
The H&R Topper comes in several different varieties. The Topper Jr. and Topper Jr. Classic are intended for teenaged and pre-teen shooters. The H&R Topper is a reliable break action shotgun. The H&R Topper Deluxe has more features and add-ons, wile the H&R Topper Deluxe Classic combines the older design with newer features. The H&R Topper is available in twelve gauge and 20 gauge.
The H&R Topper Deluxe Classic has a vent-rib twenty eight inch barrel, screw in choke and walnut wood full choke. It has a bead front sight. It weighs between six and seven pounds.
The Topper Deluxe is a twelve gauge shot gun. It has a three and a half inch chamber. It has a screw in choke tube. One of the features the deluxe has over the standard Topper is a heavy duty recoil pad. This is valuable because the gun kicks hard. This gun has an American hardwood stock, but only the Deluxe is made from walnut. It has a 28†barrel and is 43†in overall length. Its chamber is up to three inches long. It has a 14 ¼†pull.
The H&R Topper (without the classic American walnut wood or deluxe features like the recoil pad) is available in 12 gauge, 20 gauge and 0.410 bore. It has a hardwood stock (but not walnut), a pistol grip and black finish. For the 20 gauge and 0.410 bore, the barrel is 26 inches long. If you get this gun in the 12 gauge version, the barrel is 28†long. This gun has a bead front sight. The .410 bore has a full choke. The other versions have a modified choke. This gun is lighter, coming in at five to six pounds. It is around 42†in total length. It utilizes a side-lever release. This gun is generally just under $200.
The H&R Topper Junior comes in both 20 gauge and .410 bore. The barrel is 22†in length, while the overall gun length is 36â€. This makes it ideal for children and teens, though it is also suitable for smaller women. The chamber is up to three inches long.
The Topper Junior Classic features a black walnut pistol grip, like the Topper Classic shotgun for adults. It has a 22 inch barrel and 36 inch length to fit smaller shooters. This gun is available in 20 gauge and 0.410 bore. It has a ventilated recoil pad. It only weighs five to six pounds. The bead front sight is industry standard.
All versions of the H&R Topper rarely require repairs unless misused or abused. They are popular because of their low price, cheap ammo and infrequent repair bills.
