Ford Fusion
Category: Ford
The Ford Fusion is a family sedan by American car manufacturer Ford.
History
The first Ford Fusions came out in 2006. The Ford Fusion replaced the Ford Taurus as the main family sedan in the Ford lineup. This was the first Ford car to have the three bar grille.
Ford put out a second generation of the Ford Fusion in 2010, adding more safety features. The Ford Fusion Hybrid came out in 2010 as well. The Ford Fusion was radically redesigned in 2013. In 2015, the manual transmission was dropped from its offerings.
Design
The Ford Fusion’s design is related to the Lincoln MKZ. Older versions of the car were used to make the Mercury Milan, which was discontinued in 2011. The Lincoln MKZ, Mercury Milan, and Ford Fusion are based on the Ford DC3 platform.
The Ford Fusion is available with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and automatic transmission. There are several engines: a 1.5 liter 4 turbo 181 horsepower engine, a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder hybrid engine with 188 horsepower, a 2 liter 4 cylinder engine that generates roughly 230 horsepower, and a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder engine that creates 175 horsepower. A separate all electric version, the Ford Fusion Energi, is charged by a plug in.
The Ford Fusion is available with front wheel or all wheel drive. This is one of the family sedans to offer four wheel drive.
There are three main trim levels for the Ford Fusion. The S trim level is the basic version. The S trim level includes the Sync system and audio auxiliary interface. The Fusion SE trim level is the mid-grade package. The SE trim level adds a power driver seat. The Fusion Titanium trim level is the premium package. The Ford Fusion Titanium has a standard turbocharged 2 liter engine, whereas the other cars require you to pay extra for the turbocharged engine. The Titanium trim level adds keyless entry, heated front seats, climate control, rear parking sensors, a rearview camera and better sound system. The Titanium trim level rivals the SEL trim level on the second generation of Ford Fusion cars.
Performance
For the gas powered engines, the Ford Focus gets 22 miles per gallon in the city and 31 miles per gallon on the highway. When running off only an electric motor, it has a nineteen mile electric only range. The Ford Fusion hybrid gets 47 miles per gallon in the city, according to the EPA.
The gas engines have a top speed of 124 miles per hour.
