The Collie Dog males average size is about 60 to 75 pounds (27 to 34 kg) and Collie Dog Females average is 50 to 65 pounds (23 to 29 kg).

The Collie Dog is a descendant of generations of past herding dogs and for many years this breed was not heard of outside of Scotland. Surprisingly, in general the Collie Dogs were much smaller than they are now, and the Collie Dogs were used to complete a variety of jobs such as water rescue, herding cows and sheep to the market and guarding the flock while they were out in the Scottish fields. The Collie Dogs were known back then not to only belong to the working class citizens but also to royalty and wealth.

The rough Collie Dog is actually much more popular in the United Kingdom than it is in the United States. However, its popularity is growing with every passing year in the state. The Collie Dog breed became popular as soon as the hit show “Lassie†hit the screen.
The Collie Dog breed is considered generally healthy dogs. However, some Collie Dogs are more prone to contracting eye defects that are specific to the breed such as Collie eye syndrome, PRA and sensitive skin. Also some Collie Dogs carry a gene known as the MDR1 gene which makes them sensitive to certain drugs such as certain flea and tick medication and in fact will kill them if too much is given to them. As a result of this vets will follow a set of rules that include not letting any Collie Dogs be given certain brands of medication.
Overall the Collie Dog breed is considered a highly intelligent animal and is definitely a popular breed among people whether it be in the United States or across seas. The Collie Dogs are very docile, protective of their family and faithful to their family, which makes them a great family pet or a great companion animal. As long as the Collie Dogs are given daily exercise, they will thrive in any environment.
