Facts about Chevrolet Spark Car. The Chevrolet Spark is a four door hatchback so small it is called a subcompact car.
History of the Chevrolet Spark Car
The Chevy Spark Car is a subcompact car available as an electric car from Chevrolet. The Chevrolet Spark Car first came out in 2013. The original Chevrolet Spark had a four speed automatic transmission, with the CVT option available at an additional price in 2015.
Design of the Chevrolet Spark Car
The Chevrolet Spark's design is based on the Daewoo Tico. Chevy adopted the design to be able to offer a city-friendly car with much better gas mileage.
The Chevrolet Spark Car comes with a one speed direct transmission, automatic CVT (continuously variable transmission) or five speed manual transmission. There are two major engines, a completely electric 140 horsepower engine or a 1.2 liter four cylinder 84 horsepower engine. (Europeans have the option of a 1.0 liter engine.)
The 1.2 liter engine gets around 39 miles per gallon. The electric version has a range of around 80 miles on a single charge.
It accelerates more slowly than traditional gas powered cars, getting from 0 to 60 in eleven seconds. The CVT transmission does better than the all electric version on this metric. The electric version has a “hill assist†option that kicks in when the car is going up hill, as well as the ability to partially recharge the battery based on power generated by breaking.
The Chevrolet Spark Car is smaller than Chevy’s Sonic. The two rear seats are cramped. The Chevrolet Spark has 31 cubic feet of cargo space.
The Chevrolet Spark comes with the Chevy “MyLink†infotainment system and seven inch screen.
There are three trim lines, the LS, the 1LT and 2LT. The LS is the base model and the cheapest; it has minimal niceties like stability control, knee airbags, air conditioning, power windows and a title steering wheel. The 1LT comes with cruise control, Bluetooth phone connectivity, keyless entry, Sirius XM satellite radio, OnStar, power windows and alarm system. The 2LT line has heated faux leather seats and a few other upgrades.
The Spark EV is the all electric version of the Chevy Spark Car. However, that version isn’t available in all states.
The Chevrolet Spark Car is around 2,000 pounds, one of the lightest on the US market. All versions of the Chevrolet Spark Car have front wheel drive.
Performance of the Chevrolet Spark Car
The 2015 Chevrolet Spark Car edition has stability control systems built in to maintain stability during breaking, but the performance is still weak in that regard.
JD Power and Associates rated the Chevrolet Spark Car average on reliability in 2015. It has decent suspension.
The electric versions recharges off a standard 120V outlet in 17 hours, 7 hours at a 240 volt charging station or 20 minutes using an advanced connector.
