Chevrolet City Express
Category: Chevrolet
The Chevrolet City Express is designed as a small cargo van. The Chevrolet City Express is a separate vehicle from the Chevrolet Express cargo and passenger van. The Chevrolet City Express is also smaller than the Chevrolet Express full sized van.
History
The Chevrolet City Express builds on the tradition of the Chevrolet Canopy van. The original Chevy Canopy van came out in 1936. The modern Chevrolet City Express cargo minivan came out in 2014; the Nissan NV200 came out as a concept car in 2009.
Design
The Chevrolet City Express is actually designed by Nissan and based on the Nissan NV200 van. The Chevrolet City Express is a cargo van only and built on the Nissan B platform. The related Chevy Express van comes in both cargo and passenger van forms. There are several modified versions of the City Express used as taxies such as for New York City since 2013, but this is not commonly done.
The Chevrolet City Express basic model was a 2 liter 4 cylinder engine and 2 speed CVT automatic transmission; it comes with front wheel drive. The standard engine in 2015 is 131 horsepower. The Chevrolet City Express has around 122 cubic square feet of cargo space. The Chevrolet City Express has a 1,500 pound payload capacity. The standard version of the Chevy Express van has antilock breaks and a stability control system.
There are two trim levels for the Chevy City Express van: 1LS and 1LT. The 1LS or LS version has dual rear sliding doors, split cargo doors, solid rear doors, a workspace passenger seat that can fold down, many cargo mounting points, floor mounted D rings and a 12 volt power outlet with a 150 amp alternator. The 1LT or LT version adds cruise control, keyless entry, automatic locking, heated mirrors, backup sensors, a rear vision camera, rear park assist, and Bluetooth connectivity.
The Chevrolet City Express comes with a driver information center with information on fuel range, tire pressure, fuel used, oil life, average speed, average fuel economy, maintenance reminders and tachometer – in short, all the information that a fleet manager would want to have.
Performance
The Chevrolet City Express gets 24 miles per gallon in the city, 26 miles per gallon on the highway. The Chevrolet City Express has a roughly 37 turning diameter, smaller than the Chevy Express van. The Chevrolet City Express has enough space inside to load a 40 inch by 48 inch pallet flat on the floor.
Price
In 2015, the base price of the Chevrolet City Express is around $23,000. The LT trim line is around two thousand more than the base LS version.
Rivals
The Chevrolet City Express is intended to compete with the Ford Transit Connect. Other rivals for the Chevrolet City Express are the Ram Promaster, Nissan NV200 and Ram Cargo Van. The Ram Cargo Van is also called the RAM C/V or C/V Tradesman. The Chevrolet City Express is a Dodge Grand Caravan with cargo space instead of rear seats.
Trivia
This is the only Chevy vehicle made entirely by Nissan. Conversely, the somewhat larger Chevy Express along with the Ford rival van are the only vans made in America by US car companies.
This car is sometimes called the Nissan NV200 vanette, Nissan Evalia (in India), Mitsubishi Delica, Ashok Lelyand Stile (in India) and Gonow Starry (in China).
