Batfish refers to three varieties of fish, such as Orbiculate Batfish, Pinnatus Batfish and Teira Batfish.
Orbiculate Batfish
Orbiculate Batfish is a non-violent fish that comes from the Ephippididae family. This fish variety is native to the Maldives, Indonesia, and Tahiti, and they prefer a tank with a minimum capacity of 360 gallons with the temperature of the water, ranging from 72 degree Fahrenheit to 78 degree Fahrenheit, and an abundance of unobstructed space to swim.
Features: The Orbiculate Batfish breed is non-violent fish, with a body length of 22 inches. It has a circular reddish brown colored body, with big circular fins, which contribute to commanding appearance of the fish. Its body length measures between the tip of the dorsal fin and the tip of its anal fin.
Diet: Orbiculate Batfish varieties are omnivores, and in the aquarium, they are fed with several kinds of sessile invertebrates as well as anemones and corals.
Pinnatus Batfish
Overview: Pinnatus Batfish is a non-violent, tank-bred fish that comes from the Ephippididae family. This fish is also called Red-Faced Batfish or Dusky Batfish, which is a wonder to observe, flapping elegantly throughout the aquarium as though it is flying in slow action. Usually, they prefer a tank with a minimum capacity of 300 gallons with the temperature of the water, ranging from 72 degree Fahrenheit to 78 degree Fahrenheit, and an abundance of unobstructed space to swim.
Features: The Pinnatus Batfish breed is non-violent fish, with a body length of 18 inches. It has a circular black-colored body, with big circular fins, bordered by a burning orange corona that offers the fish a commanding appearance. Some fish are seen with the shade of a gliding hawk with two outstretched wings, extended outside in its striking profile.
Diet: Pinnatus Batfish varieties are omnivores, and in the aquarium, they are fed with live saltwater shrimp, and other meaty foods, such as scallops, frozen herbivores and vitamin-rich brine shrimp.
Teira Batfish
Overview: Teira Batfish is a non-violent fish that comes from the Ephippididae family. This fish variety hails from Indonesia is also called Long-fin Platax, Long-fin Batfish and Round-faced Batfish. Usually, they prefer a tank with a minimum capacity of 360 gallons with the temperature of the water, ranging from 72 degree Fahrenheit to 78 degree Fahrenheit, and an abundance of unobstructed space to swim.
Features: The Teira Batfish breed is a peaceful fish, with a body length of 25 inches, measuring between the tip of the dorsal fin and the tip of its anal fin. The fins and the body of the fish have broad perpendicular alternate bands of a pale yellow and black or tan.
Diet: Pinnatus Batfish varieties are omnivores, and they feed on several kinds of sessile invertebrates as well as anemones and corals in the wild. In the aquarium, they are fed with meaty foods, such as scallops, frozen herbivores and vitamin-rich brine shrimp.
The average lifespan of all three Batfish varieties is 5 years.
