The Bardigiano Horse breed attains its name from the Bardi town in the Apennines of Parma. The Bardigiano Horse breed is chiefly associated with the neighboring region and the Valle del Ceno. The mountain atmosphere and vertical, uneven land of the region have contributed to create a healthy, strong breed, nimble and sure-footed over tricky ground. Even though some male and all female Bardigiano horses have a small body size, they are considered a horse at all times in their home country. The Bardigiano breed is extensively spread in Italy, with breeders in 26 provinces in Italy. Due to these fairly huge numbers, the Bardigiano Horse variety is not considered to be in danger of destruction, but it is categorized as a susceptible breed.

Features

Bardigiano is a mesobrachymorphic horse breed and the height of an adult male Bardigiano Horse breed ranges from 55.2 inches to 59.6 inches (138 cm to 149 cm), whereas the females are usually somewhat shorter than the males, with a height between 54 inches and 58.8 inches (135 cm and 147 cm). The male Bardigiano Horse breeds have a body mass, ranging from 550 pounds to 660 pounds (244.5 kg to 293.3 kg).

The Bardigiano Horse breeds have a dark color body, with white color markings on their face and legs. The Bardigiano Horse breeds have a small head, with a straight or curved-in outline, low shoulders, deep girth, straight back, and overall a well-built look. They appear with a broad mouth and projecting upper lip, and a curved neck with a wide bottom and thick top. The Bardigiano Horse are extremely strong, well-built horses, particularly for their body size. The eyes of this breed are habitually covered by a thick bunch of hair. The common colors of their body diverge from blood bay to black dun. The Bardigiano Horses have a strong body to cover extended distances on insufficient rations. They are drought resistant animals, with immense stamina and nimble movement. The Bardigiano Horse breed is a high strung desert animal, which is bred for its speed and strength. They are rough and resistant and have an uneven personality.
