Alaska, which is shortly mentioned as AK, is one among the 50 states of the United States, located on the northwest edge of the continent of North America. It is surrounded by Yukon in the east, the Pacific Ocean in the south and west, the Arctic Ocean in the north. Alaska is the biggest state by area in the United States, the 4th least crowded and the least thickly populated among the 50 states in the United States. Approximately 50 % of the residents of Alaska live in the Anchorage city area. Marshlands and damp land permafrost occupy 188,320 square miles and glacier ice occupies about 16,000 square miles and the tidal zone occupies 1,200 square miles. The Bering Glacier occupies 2,250 square miles. With this huge number of glaciers, Alaska includes 50 % glaciers in the world. There are 19 counties in Alaska among which the Petersburg County was the most recent county formed in the state, on the 3rd of December 2013.

Among the counties of the Alaska State, Municipality of Anchorage is ranked as the most populous county with the population of 291,826, and Yakutat City and Borough is ranked as the least populous county with the population of 662.

Anchorage is the biggest of all cities in Alaska by population, and in total land area the Sitka city ranks first. Sitka is also the oldest city in Alaska.
The entire Alaska State is served by the area code 907, excluding for the undersized southeastern Alaska Society of Hyder, which employs the 250 area code of the adjacent Stewart in British Columbia.
